Finlay Walker is a fine art photographer based in East Tennessee.
Finlay's formative years in photography consisted of street-style photographs made while wandering the streets of downtown Nashville. Eventually, his focus drifted away from people, to more ordered, geometric compositions. Buildings, flowers, random walls. His driving motive was not one single subject, but a simple, unexplained satisfaction that came with each photo.
It wasn't until later, through his discovery of formalism, that he found language for what he'd already been drawn to instinctively. This pattern only grew stronger and would go on to serve as the foundation of his project, Form.
Finlay studied photography at the University of Tennessee while simultaneously pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering. He additionally served as the events director for the university's photography club. While in college, Finlay became more intentional about his work. From this shift, the projects Standard Issue and Dissonance were born.
In 2023, Finlay received a Gold Key Award in Photography from the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. His work has also been featured in Phoenix Magazine at the University of Tennessee.
